The name Djimba is composed of two special dogs, Djara the galga and Simba the greyhound. Djara was the first dog from Spain and our first contact with this special breed but also the suffering of the greyhound / galgo in Spain. This has lead to a deep involvement in Animal Welfare (first by starting Greyhounds Rescue Holland and later by the founding of the Animal Medical Care Foundation). Djara has been one year with us in France and died in her sleep in September 2006, she was approx 15 years old.

Simba was a very severely abused greyhound, his head was battered, he missed an eye and his jaw was crooked after it had been broken long time ago and healed without treatment. He had several bullets in his body. Simba was special, he attracted people and once you met him, you would never forget him. Djara was introvert, Simba the opposite, he was quiet but loved the attention, he spread his love for every one. In Mai 2010 after a short illness he passed away. He was propably around 16 years old. 

Together with all the dogs and cats that have left us we know that one day we will be together

All  18 dogs live in the house together with the 6 cats , they have a property of 1,5 ha terrain, greenlands and wood, with a 2 meter high fence. If the weather is fine, they can go outside all day. In house the dogs sleep on sofas, beds, pillows etc.  For photos click here.
